Okonomimura Hassyo

Okonomiyaki- a famous food in Hiroshima. Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki is quite different from Osaka style Okonomiyaki. You will see the way of cooking is pretty different. Chefs are usually well trained, so you can see quite sophisticated cooking process. Its like a performance.

Hiroshima Okonomiyaki is composed of crepe-like skin(flour,), egg, noodle,cabbage, and pork. Adding cheese, squid, shrimp, or shiso leaves are recommended for extra.

They cost about 600 yen -

In downtown Hiroshima, there is a place called "Okonomimura"
Okonomiyaki village in English.

Its in a building composed of 24 okonomiyaki restaurants in three floors.
We went one of them called Hassyo.

It takes about 15 min. to serve, so you will be waiting with beer and appetizer like "Tonpei Yaki"



























Having Okonomiyaki with beer is sooooo good. Definitely recommended.

A surprise gift

Hello everyone!
It's finally getting cooler in Kyoto! I'm very excited autumn here!!

My brother is getting married, and he was thinking about getting a surprise gift for a bride at their wedding party.
He decided to make a knife which she can use everyday as a surprise present.
He wanted me to video record and take pictures while he made it to make a short movie which will be shown in a party.

Takefu knife village locates in Fukui prefecture.
It took about 2 and half hours by a car.


As soon as we arrived there, we could hear the sound of hitting iron plates.


Now he is getting briefed on operation for the day.
I was taking lots of pictures and taping the process of it.




It much more difficult that what it looks, he mentioned.
He was very serious to fight with heat and machines for her!



A piece of iron plate needs to be heated again and again to keep it soft.
Then it will be cut to the shape of a knife. He also curve a massage on it.
After that it needs to be sharpened.



Then...



Finally, all the process is done!!
After 6 hours taking pictures and videos, I was exhausted.
It was very my first time to see how kitchen knives are made. Taking best shots were not very fun, however it was very interesting to see a knife was getting shaped.

Cycling in Kyoto (from City center to Jousyoukouji Temple)

One fine day, I went for a bike ride to Jousyoukouji in Keihoku (northern Kyoto) area.

I took a rest at Doufu Shrine after going down the Kyomitouge.

The shrine is simple but a storied one. This shrine was founded in 920 and has deified Onono Michikaze who was one of three famous Heian period calligraphers.

The view from the crossing of route 31 and a route 162. I wondered why there is a futsal place.

Regrettably I couldn't taste wild boar ramen. The store seemed to have closed.

Going down while looking at such a scene is pleasant. Considering going up to return, I become melancholy.

Arrive at Jousyokouji. I considered the time left behind to the return and did not go into the temple. This temple is famous for NINE petals cherry blossoms.

It took more than four hours by my MTB bike. The road bikes passed gallantly was enviable.

LP concert!!

LP concert(Linkin Park) was held in OSAKA last week, at INTEX OSAKA.

My friend got 4 tickets and i was chosen one of the people who had the chance to get in:)yay

I was with YUMI,An, (Taiwanese friends) TONY and Pscal(both of them are from Switzerland).

We were very board to wait in the line for almost 1hour and half though we were very VERY excited!

We were happy that LP stage was very closer than normal concert in the big dome. We'll be back OSAKA!

Why Don't you go to the Mazda Base ball stadium♪

Hi there!
Recurrently we have many guests who go to Mazda Base ball stadium ro watch baseball game.
Watching baseball is a common pastime in Japan.　Hiroshima Carp is Hiroshima's home team,Especially we enjoy cheering for the home team,is it same as your county?



They went baseball stadium a couple days ago.
They enjoy it a lot!!





Matuda stadium is a 5 min walk from Hiroshima hana hostel. The ticket is 1600yen ～.

Konnichiwa~♪I'm KANA from HANA Hostel Hiroshima.


I had been working as J-Hoppers Hiroshima staff since this January. And now I am the new member of HANA from this September.
I had gained many great experiences at J Hoppers Hiroshima, I wish I could gain more experience at here with new staff and and become super HANA staff w!!

I have been working with another HANA staff since this September, everything is kind of new to all of us and taking time to figure out how can we make better work float.
But we all believe that we can make it soon and we will.

What I want to tell here today is...Nice to meet all of HANA guests and staff!

My memories of this summer

Hi:) it's mana from Kyoto.

How did your summer vacation go?
Unfortunately, there was no vacation for me but I have really enjoyed the life with the guests this summer.

let me share my memories of 2011summer with you.

Ah-- MOKA cha-----n!! This pretty kitty from Taiwan, gives a big, pretty and cheerful smile to everyone and people were just melted by the smile. i miss your smile, MOKA!

These guests were having the Takoyaki party for their lunch with using our takoyaki maker:)
The 2 guys were in summer school at some university in Kyoto to do extra seminar to become a teacher.
Thank you for staying here long time! We miss you all!


We spend almost 1hour at the reception for producing the Panda character... He alredy had some ideas and draw 4 patterns of Panda but they didn't look like the animals...so me and the manager shin helped to make the good one was very very fun!! And I loved the Lion (my favorite animal) he draw!
