Cycling in Kyoto (from City center to Jousyoukouji Temple)

One fine day, I went for a bike ride to Jousyoukouji in Keihoku (northern Kyoto) area.

I took a rest at Doufu Shrine after going down the Kyomitouge.

The shrine is simple but a storied one. This shrine was founded in 920 and has deified Onono Michikaze who was one of three famous Heian period calligraphers.

The view from the crossing of route 31 and a route 162. I wondered why there is a futsal place.

Regrettably I couldn't taste wild boar ramen. The store seemed to have closed.

Going down while looking at such a scene is pleasant. Considering going up to return, I become melancholy.

Arrive at Jousyokouji. I considered the time left behind to the return and did not go into the temple. This temple is famous for NINE petals cherry blossoms.

It took more than four hours by my MTB bike. The road bikes passed gallantly was enviable.

Hot Spring in the Highlands

Oita prefecture in Kyusyu is famous for its hot springs particularly those in and around the city of Beppu.

In this summer, I went one of hot springs in Okuyuhuin highlands.

Beautiful, isn't it? Fresh air make your lungs clean.

This outdoor bath makes you feel gorgeous.

It was in the early evening on weekday and there's no one except for me. As you may guess I swam.

This is very important sign for hot spring lovers. This means that there is no water added to this type of bath. The hot spring of a 'Gensen kakenageshi' bath is always released without being used in a circulation system.

There are a bunch more hot springs around Beppu. Please find one you like.

Here is the site of this hot spring.

SAGANO SIGHT-SEEING TRAM

To get out from heat and humidity, I rode on the SAGANO SIGHT-SEEING TRAM on the other day.

The train brings you from Saga station to Kameoka station taking about 23 minutes. (JR train takes only 10 minutes so most people use JR for return.)

The tram makes a few minutes stop for passengers to enjoy the breathtaking scene of Hozu river gorge, which formerly was the 'main street' for sending timber down from the mountains.

The fifth car named " The Rich" is a windowless aiming a satisfaction of nature scene of Sagano.

Needless to say, the spectacle at spring and autumn is silent beauty.

In summer, it's good for refreshing and cooling.

Here is the English site: http://www.sagano-kanko.co.jp/eng/index.htm

Bonus

A gigantic chandelier in 19th Century Hall (SL & Piano Museum) in Saga station. You would see some famous composers too....

Hana Ride to Sera Town

On 4th of May, I took a ride to "KAMU-no-SATO" seeing "Shibazakura" in Sera Town which is 50km away from Hiroshima downtown.

Heading North on national route 54 for about an hour.
And changed my route to 52→37→52 again→375→56 and finally 45.

What is "shibazakura" in English?
As I searched... "Phlox Subulata" in English... who knows?
shiba→lawn
zakura=sakura→cherry blossom

seems like cherry blossom on the ground:)
hard for me to explain. "Un bon croquis vaut mieux qu'un long discours"

About 800,000 of "Phlox Subulata". I was checking their bloom forecast everyday to visit on "the best day". 4th of May was the day! lots of ppl though... it needed to be my day off and sunny weather too..yea it was a perfect day.

It took me just an hour and half to get there. However on the way back I got lost and took about 3 hours to go home since my cell phone ran out of battery and couldn't check my route. took really long time to find the sign says "HIROSHIMA".

other than "shibazakura", Sera town has some flower parks like tulip, lily, lavender etc...

I had really relaxing time in Sera town.

About my Ninja250R

Running Distance at this Ride:220km
Total Running Distance:939km

Gracias!!

Hello everyone--!!
Have you appreciated beautiful sakura trees this year?
Looking at fallen sakura petals make me feel little sad because that tells me a ending of spring, but on the other hand, that tells people summer is coming soon.
I want a lot of people to visit and feel these beautiful Kyoto spring.

Beautiful and elegant sakura trees!!

Sakura petals are floating on the surface of kamo river.

There are a lot of great guests at Kyoto Hana Hostel.
They come to Kyoto, Japan, to see and enjoy these brilliant spring.

I have met a very friendly and nice Spanish family from Israel.
Since I was not able to speak Spanish, they thought me some Spanish words to help a guest.
They also gave me a bright happy first greeting in the morning each day.
Here a message for people who suffered 3.11 earthquake from them.

They wrote massages in Spanish and Hebrew.

Thank you very much for coming here and keeping us on smiling everyday!!
Also... Happy Birthday!!!!
I definitely will visit you guys in Israel!!

Beautiful country side of Hiroshima

"Autumn" It is such a lovely season !

Especially, we had a long long hot summer this year. And the autumn has come finally!!

The harvest time is one of a great thing of Autumn.

I drove one hour from Hiroshima city to mountain side is called Akioota chou.
There is a "Nii no Tanada" rice terrace which is selected the best 100 in Japan.

324 rice terraces in this area!! Every single rice has turned their color to gold :)

It was just before harvest, so we could see a golden lovely scenery.

Lots of dragonflies are all around the golden rice terraces.

They looked like enjoying the great time with us!

One day at a water

Summer is not gone yet even the autumn bell insects started singing .
At most of my days off, I go to the mountains and river to be refreshed ,for my mind and body.

Today, I felt like going out from Kyoto..
Where would be nice.
From a story of my friend ,I knew a waterfall in the west side of Biwa lake .

A biggest lake in Japan, lake Biwa
is located in Shiga prefecture . And it is very close to Kyoto.
If you take the JR train , it takes only 15min from Kyoto station to the closest city of Shiga .

We changed the train at Yamashina to the JR Kosei line.
The kosei sen(west lake line ) is one of my favorite train line.
It's worth traveling with this train even just for the window view.
On the right hand side, you see the wide open view of Biwa lake and the figure of smooth eastern mountains and islands.
On the left hand side, the wild mountains and golden rice fields are shining.
This train doesn't go so fast, and that make our time so calm and memorable.

The station we got off was so quiet.
There was one sign and nothing else I could rely on to find the direction (beside my natural sense). We took the path behind of the station.
After 20-30min walking up the hill, the climbing path starts.
The temperature changes so clearly from this point.

If you climb little further, there is a small waterfall then a big Female waterfall.
The smooth touch of the current was welcoming me to jump into the water.
Ofcourse, I did not miss to pray to Bishamon god next to the waterfall before the dip.
It's a sacred place.

After the swim, We went up the jungle alike path, rough and steep.

What a magnificent view!
I wonder if the people from old days also saw this view and felt the same as I did.
The waterfall has found long time ago and named by One of the Ashikaga shougun 500years ago.
The nature bring us the sense of awe and that make us to appreciate every moment and everything.

After the view point, we finally reached to the Male waterfall.
This whole water fall consists5 different waterfalls and 75meters high in total length .

Male waterfall was such powerful waterfall ,rough rocks, water rushing down the musculus surface of his body.
In front of this grand waterfall, the feeling of swimming didn't come to me .
The energy I felt was too strong.
so I enjoyed seating at the huge rock and bathed in the cool wind from the waterfall.

When dusk has come, we went down to the lake
The silent fisherman town lost the sense of time .
just sway

I saw a water birds fly over to the eastern mountain.

and I lied on the sand

If the people recall the way of living of those days,,,
it is the time our being was not parting the human from the nature.

There was no word for the nature in ancient time.
Because we were just part of it.

When we would find the real meaning of "losing time"again,
and then, the world would be a different place.

it is just my monologue of the day.

ciao
